CANCON App Privacy Policy
Effective date: Oct 19, 2026
About this policy
CANCON is the attendee app for CANCON events. This policy explains how the app handles information when you browse event guides, save favorites, set reminders, and take part in polls. Websites opened from the app have their own privacy policies.
Information kept on your device
The app stores downloaded event guides and images, your selected event, favorites, appearance choices, dismissed announcements, reminder choices, and saved or pending poll votes on your device. These preferences are not uploaded to create an attendee profile. Your device backup settings may allow Apple or Google to back up local app data.
Event downloads and security
When the app checks for updates, downloads content, or retrieves poll results, our servers and hosting or security providers receive ordinary request information, such as your IP address, request time, and requested URL. This information supports content delivery, troubleshooting, and protection against abuse.
Poll votes
Voting is optional and does not require an account, name, or email address. When you vote, the app sends the event, poll, and answer identifiers, a ballot identifier, and a poll-specific token derived from a random installation identifier. The server stores the accepted choice, ballot identifier, a hash of the voting token, and the receipt time to count votes and prevent duplicates. Public results show aggregate counts, not individual voting identifiers.
Votes saved offline remain on your device until the app can attempt submission. Clearing or uninstalling the app before submission can remove pending votes. Removing the app does not remove votes already received by the server.
Reminders and device permissions
Schedule reminders are optional local notifications. Notification permission is requested when you choose to save a reminder. You can remove reminders in the app or change notification permission in device settings. The app does not collect your precise location; a maps app opened for directions handles its own location permissions.
How information is used and shared
App information is used to deliver event guides, provide requested features, count and display poll results, improve event services, and protect the service. The app contains no advertising or analytics SDK and does not use voting identifiers for advertising tracking. Service providers may process request information to host, deliver, and secure the service. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or to protect the service and its users.
External websites and support
Opening a vendor website, ticket page, contact form, or directions service leaves the CANCON app. Those services control any information you provide to them. If you contact us, we use the information you choose to provide to answer your request.
Retention and your choices
Local information remains until it is replaced, removed through available app controls, or cleared using your device settings. Server votes and technical records are retained for event results, vote integrity, administration, security, and applicable legal needs. The current app does not automatically delete accepted server votes on a fixed schedule.
You can use the event guide without voting or enabling reminders. We do not currently offer a process for requesting deletion of individual accepted poll votes. Votes are not stored with attendee names or accounts, so we may be unable to identify a particular vote as yours. For questions about server data, contact us using the page below and identify the relevant event, poll, or service.
Security and policy changes
The production app uses HTTPS for communication with its event server. No service or device is completely secure. Updates to this policy will be published with a new effective date and included in future app content or app releases. The offline copy identifies its effective date; the public policy page provides the latest published version.
Children
The app is intended for event attendees and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the service, contact us so we can review the request.
